My Rock Star Moment in Mexico
So last month, as many of you know, we were able to take a team of 12 (from our church plant here in Tampa) to Tuxtla, Mexico, and visit our sister Aletheia in Mexico, along with my good buddy Mark Huffman, the pastor of said church, and his wife Abby and their new baby daughter Rachel. It was a great trip. God did incredible things. Our team was really used by Jesus and as a result, a lot of momentum for the new church plant was created.
Ashlee just posted a ton of pictures of the trip on facebook and you can view those here. One of the highlights for me was leading some worship at a big night of worship (the Mexicans actually called it a “Worship Party” – I like how the Mexicans think). There were over 300 people there and the other bands that played were fun, talented, and full of love and true hearts of praise for God.
As most of you know, I am now a boring teaching pastor…But, in my cool days, I led worship for over 12 years at a couple of churches. I look back on those days and have great memories of what God called me to do all those years. In fact, during that period of my life, I was having so much fun that I incessantly rejected the notion that I would ever become a teaching pastor. Boy, that worked out well for me. My point is, I loved being a worship leader. Surprisingly, I love being a teaching pastor even more, but there will always be a special place reserved for worship leading in my heart. And I must say that having the opportunity to lead some songs with my boy J.R. while we were in Mexico was so amazing!
Here are a couple images from my rock star moment in Mexico:
(I mean there was a smoke machine and lights and everything…)
