So Ashlee and I are in Harrisonburg today after a two day journey from Tampa that was broken up by a pit stop in Riner (Ashlee’s home town). It was great to get up this morning and hit up the Aletheia Harrisonburg men’s prayer time. We started that prayer time in December of 2006 to specifically pray for a pastor for Aletheia Richmond. As you all know, God answered our prayers. I was able to see some of my boys there this morning and we capped off our time with a trip to Shoney’s for some cholesterol increasing goodness.

As many of you know, tomorrow will mark one year since our little Aaden came on the scene. There are mixed emotions with being back in Harrisonburg. On one end of the spectrum we are so stoked to be back in the location where we ministered for so many years and made lasting relationships. On the other end, we are smacked in the face with the reality of the tragedy that occurred in our lives here just under 11 months ago. The pain of that is overwhelming and looms over our heads and forever will every time we visit this wonderful city. Thanks be to God for his tender mercies, kindness and faithfulness or else we wouldn’t have been able to get through this past year. Our crew in Harrisonburg continues to be a source of encouragement and we can’t wait to see many of our great friends this evening at Aletheia Harrisonburg’s Wednesday evening service.

This past year has been the most trying and testing year for our fragile little family. We have shed more tears than a lifetime’s worth, have left everything that’s comfortable to us, and have given up and sacrificed a lot…and we couldn’t be more satisfied. Planting a church is the most difficult thing that anybody can do in ministry. We are getting our tails kicked on a daily basis all the while continuing to face unimaginable attacks from the enemy, and we couldn’t be happier. The joy of a new Proffitt addition to the mix hasn’t hurt that feeling. But most of all, we have a security in God because we understand His faithfulness. Contentment isn’t bred by circumstances. It comes from an unwavering confidence in God that He is in control. What a liberating feeling to know that we don’t have to try to get through this time of year on our own. We have a God that genuinely cares about us and it comforts us to no end. Just like we are studying in Philippians 4…we have the peace of God that passes all understanding. Romans 11:33 tells us that “His ways are unfathomable.” God is not limited by anything. He is above it all…moving, working, dictating, and comforting.
