A trip to California and back.
It’s been a couple of weeks since I last posted something; my apologies for that. Ashlee, Drew, and I spent 8 days in Southern California, where we connected with some of our supporters, hung out with our friends, and participated in some leisurely activities. It was a great trip. If you don’t know, Southern California is where my roots are. I spent the first 23 years of my life in the Golden State, growing up, playing basketball, learning how to do ministry, and making life-long friendships that are still lasting to this very moment. It’s been great that Ashlee and Drew have been able to make a few visits there now to see where I grew up, and build friendships with some of my greatest friends. California is a crazy place but it will always have my heart. It was definitely good to get back to Tampa though because let’s face it, Tampa is pretty sweet too. Here are the hi-lights of our trip.
The pictures below are our trip in a nut shell. We spent the week staying at the Knutson home. Sage, Mani, and Zoe were the best hosts ever. On Friday, we were able to spend lunch with our long time friends Stu and Karen Tant. We were once again impressed by the courage that Karen possesses as she battles cancer. She has the model attitude of someone who is going through pain and suffering, and who is still glorifying God. We are amazed by her faithfulness to God and to her family through this tough time. We love them. Later in the day, two other very dear friends of ours Dave and Raelean Shields hosted a cookout at their sweet pad. They invited some of our best friends over and we had a reunion of sorts. On Saturday, we took a trip to San Diego and hit up Balboa Park, Coronado Beach, Little Italy, and the model train museum (Drew’s favorite). On Sunday night we were able to hit up a college group that I had a hand in starting before I left California for Virginia 8 years ago. It is called Kaleo and they have about 65 people hitting it up each week with solid teaching and great music. They even played an Aletheia tune. And they are all about doing evangelism so they had me get up and talk about how we do specific-intentional evangelism on college campus’. On Monday, we hit up a free trip to Disneyland thanks to Sage and Mani. Drew loved Pirates of the Caribbean (like his daddy did growing up), as well as his very own Winnie the Pooh (just like his daddy also). On Tueday we were able to visit my High school where I spent my days ballin’ people up. It was like being in the twilight zone when I stepped foot in that place. I had to shoot a few hoops there for nostalgia’s sake. The trip was great as you can see (other than the 19 hour circus getting back…which included a two hour fly around Chicago experience, and a 6 hour layover in JFK. But Drew did make a new friend in the airport)…
I figured I’d throw our ultrasound picture in there as well from two Mondays ago so that the world can be introduced officially to the next AP. We won’t know the gender for a few more weeks so hold on to your seats for a name. We’ve already got it picked out no matter what it is. We are very excited about this new little one and are praising God for his faithfulness to us.
Now it’s time to hit the grind again. We are looking forward to what God has in store for aletheia tampa. Our Sunday night launch service is just around the corner (August 23rd to be exact) so please pray for us as we prepare for the next phase of this ministry.

Hey AP’s I am with you…the best part of Balboa Park is the model railroad museum! I love that place…still. And I am almost 55. We loved seeing you guys. Being around Drew makes me excited about being a grandpa. We will be praying for your first Sunday service.
