Building a college church in the summer…

I joked with our group last night that we are doing something very ironic. We are attempting to start a college church in the summer time…And we are seeing some momentum! How about that for irony. It doesn’t make sense. This is just how God intended this church plant to get going. Ashlee and I tried our hardest to get down to Tampa before the end of March but it just didn’t work out that way. By the time we got established and moved in, it was the first week of April. Well, USF’s spring semester ended on May 1st. We weren’t accepted as a campus organization until the last week of April…so we had one week on campus with all of the students here. Hopefully that helps you understand where we are at and how awesome it is that God has already been doing some incredible things so far this summer.

On that note, last night we had our largest group on a Monday night to date (This was after spending hours on the campus doing evangelism). We had new visitors. The food was awesome, especially those desserts. The worship was incredible. I felt great about the Bible study and I think it challenged our group. The last couple of verses in chapter 1 of Philippians talk about suffering and how Paul viewed it as a gift to suffer in the same way Christ did. Because of this, I felt compelled to end our first Bible study series at Aletheia Tampa with a time of remembrance of what our Savior went through for us…so we ended the night with communion. I think it really impacted people. We had a lot of fun last night. And as I drove way from USF’s campus, at the end of a very long day, I said to myself, “and this is all happening during the middle of the summer when most other college ministries shut down.” Wow! Praise God for His faithfulness.

We will continue to keep trucking along this summer, even amidst the absence of people who will be getting involved again once they return from…studying abroad, mission trips, family vacations, classes, summer jobs, living in a different city with their parents for the summer to save money, etc…

I don’t know what the fall is going to bring for Aletheia Tampa, but if summer is any indication, then we have a lot to look forward to. Thanks to everyone who continues to pray for us. We are so very grateful to know that many of you pray for us often.

I’m looking forward to it that’s for sure. Congrats on getting through your first sermon series with flying colors.
