Redemption is here
Hi All,
Hopefully everyone is having a great week so far. October was a great month again for Aletheia Church. Many lives came to Christ, we celebrated our 6 year anniversary, and God allowed us to continue to take steps toward beginning a college-age church planting movement across the state. Thank you for coming out and celebrating with us this past week. It’s amazing to see how people continue to respond to what God is doing in Harrisonburg through our little ministry. I am awe-struck every single day as I see the changes in all of your lives.
As a lot of you know, the Aletheia Band is recording an ep to be released hopefully some time in the early part of 2008. We have carefully and patiently worked on this project since the early part of this past summer and we are excited about it. We are nearing the end of the entire tracking process and really just have a few vocal parts to record, along with mixing, editing, and final mastering. As soon as the ep is finalized we are going to put a stream of it on our myspace page so even before it is released, you will here it in it’s entirety at www.myspace.com/aletheiaband. The ep will be titled “On learning in WarTime.” The meaning behind the title comes from an essay by C.S. Lewis and it deals with Spiritual Warfare. We, as young followers of Christ, are dealing with a very post modern generation. No longer are morals and values looked at objectively within young minds. We are in a battle. Victory is God’s but it is up to us to effectively connect as many lost people as we can to the truth. We know it’s not easy and we must have a proper perspective or we are going to get blindsided by the enemy.
The first track is titled “A New Battle Cry.” This song is an anthem of celebration and victory and one of the sub-themes within the song that supports those terms is “Redemption.” This word is thrown around a lot in Christianity but I feel many times we don’t quite understand exactly what the word means. Any time I write a song, I like to research what it is I’m saying, knowing that many people will be listening to the lyrics. So, I looked up Redemption as used in the Bible and stumbled upon Romans 3:24 “Being justified freely by His Grace through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” That verse tells us so much in relation to what we have because of what Christ gave. We are freely acquitted from guilt because of Jesus’ free gift of salvation. It is through the redemption that we have slavation. What is redemption? The greek word is apultrosis and it has to do with “a releasing effected by payment of ransom.” Ransom means to buy back. Jesus bought us back through his death on the cross and substituted himself in our place. Wow…We are hooked up!
I just wanted to encourage you with that today. I posted the lyrics to the new tune on our myspace page. Click on the link and let me know what you think…lyrics
Take care.
