Back from Atlanta

Hey all,

I’m sorry for the delayed blog this week but Ashlee, Andrew, and I just arrived back home after a 6 day adventure in Atlanta, Georgia. For those of you who don’t know why I was down there, Ashlee and I (along with George, Jenny, and Carrie Graham) were invited by one of Aletheia’s sponsoring Agencies, the “North American Mission Board” to be a part of a commissioning service they held on Monday night. We had an incredible time of connecting with other church planters all over the nation (as well as Canada), and we were able to express the vision of Aletheia and what God has done in Harrisonburg, Richmond, and hopefully, in the very near future, many other University-town locations.

People from all over America were able to hear about the story of 4 people from Southern California, who packed up all they had in a 24 foot box truck, moved to Harrisonburg, Virginia, not knowing a single person, and by the grace and power of God, built a church that specifically targeted college-aged folks and not to mention many other non college-aged people of all different backgronds. They heard the story of how those 4 endured their moving truck breaking down a dozen or more times which left them stranded on the side of the road on numerous occasions. People then heard about how the final major break down occured in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and how they stumbled into the parking lot of a budget motel…And how out of all the motels they could have rolled into, they happened to stop at the one where a truck mechanic was standing outside of smoking a cigarette…and how that truck mechanic had a $40,000 diagnostic computer sitting in the trunk of his Ford Thunderbird. That truck mechanic ended up working on that darn truck until the wee hours of the morning. He asked for nothing more than a measly $35. We refer to him now only as “The smoking Angel.” The forces of darkness did not want us to answer the calling that God gave us but of course, as always, the light won the battle. This is what we were able to share. We talked about how God allowed us to connect with the people of Harrisonburg which included the college students and town’s people…over 20,000 doors knocked on, over 600 decisions for Christ! Then, we talked about how we went to Richmond and did the same thing at Virginia Commonwealth University…how God is changing hearts and lives there in an incredible way. Finally we proceeded to talk about how the “Aletheia” model is a very reproduceable church planting model and how if the Lord wills it to happen, we could be in the beginning stages of a collegiate church planting movement…WOW! Pray about what your involvement might be in that.

Well, that was our 6 days in Atlanta…in a nut shell. God bless all of you guys and gals. Thank you all for your continual involvement at Aletheia. Remember, we will never be able to do enough for God, especially when measured up to what He has done for us.

Wow I have actually never heard that story…thanks for sharing that, Aaron. Man I can’t tell you how excited I am for where God will continue to be moving through Aletheias.

Also a great reminder of the motive we have to endure the trouble described in your story and continue taking leaps of faith to build the kingdom…all Christ gave for us!!

What an adventure this life is…Aletheia remains in my prayers as you all rock Harrisonburg, Richmond, and other college towns into life with Christ. :)
