Appreciate your life.
Hey there,
The last time I wrote all of you I was in Big Sky country in the great state of Montana. Now that I am back in my comfortable Virginia environment, I realize what a far cry from normal living last week was. First of all we didn’t get any sleep. I figured that being away from my newborn son would allow me to catch up on some much needed sleep. That didn’t happen. Blame it on the 100 degree blazing temperatures, the mosquitos, the cabin that had the distinct odor of a 12 year old boy’s sweaty socks, or just a combination of the three. Not getting any sleep though has not affected my attitude towards the experience. I would lose a week of sleep anytime to see 9 or 10 kids commit their lives to Christ.
For those who were at church on Sunday, you were able to hear the heart-wrenching stories of some of the children that we ministered to last week during our time on that 7,500 elevation mountain. Pastor Dave shared the events that took place the last night we were there as young person after young person stood up in front of all the other campers and told stories of physical abuse in their homes, drug and alcohol addiction, and other horrific problems and issues. We sat there for more than two hours as the sun faded away to hear of problems that no young child should ever have to experience. It touched the hearts of all those that were there and especially grabbed the attention of Speedy, Pastor Dave, and I.
We came back committed to do something for all of those struggling kids who, by the way, were some of the greatest and most passionate kids I have ever met. They soaked up every word that we spoke and they worshipped God during the times of praise with incredible fervor. Speedy and I have led worship together close to 500 times over the last 4 years. I feel that those kids were more passionate in worship than any other people we have worshipped with. They put the rest of us to shame. You see, we all get to come to Aletheia every week and worship God in song and I know we take it for granted. I see it in the faces of those in the crowd week after week. It’s the whole “let’s just get this over with” attitude and believe me, I’m just as guilty of this as you are. When was the last time we really appreciated the opportunity that God gives us every Sunday morning to sing at the top of our lungs to Him? Chew on that!
Okay, that was a major tangent. You’re probably saying to yourself “like father like son right now.” J Anyways, we came back from Montana wanting to do something for those kids. So Pastor Dave got up on Sunday morning and threw out a challenge to the people of aletheia. He said “I am going to send t-shirts and cds to all of those kids in Montana. It’s going to cost some money. You can help if you want.” That was it. He didn’t say much more than that. Well, our people have been known to step up during times such as these and once again you did. We were able to raise a total of $1,121 to hook those kids up with some aletheia gear. Thanks to all of you who rose to the challenge encourage someone who might not have it as good as you do. You rock! I love you guys.
Until next time,
Your humble servant,
aaron
What an encouragement and testimony! Your message definitely makes one do a self inventory of not only how we worship, but to realize how blessed we are at Aletheia to be able to worship in the ways that we can. I mean, it’s all from the heart, it’s free, it’s alive! We are so gifted where there are so many people who are so lost to know and experience the life of Christ. Yet, as you said, sometimes we take that for granted. That’s scary, isn’t it? Encouragement is energizing and Discouragement is Paralyzing. You all encouraged those kids as well as were encouraged by them. You all encourage us each week by allowing God to work through you the way He does. Thank You!
On the topic of worship, being involved in the band and actually playing the music we worship to doesn’t make one less susceptible to numbness, believe me. The band’s had to come to grips with this time and time again. Its just a matter of asking God to shake us up, and help us realize what a wonderful thing it is to be free to worship without fear of encroachment, not to mention the relevent form in which we do it at Aletheia.
Aaron,
We are still thanking God for you, your Dad, and Speedy coming to Youth Camp here in Montana.
I had Brittany, Tiffany, and Cheyenne share about camp last Sunday morning and they did great. They really got the gospel presentation down about repentance and faith. I’m so excited for them. Pastor Dave’s teaching was GREAT and he brought it right to the level of the youth at camp. The music you provided was incredible too.
As far as I’m concerned you’re invited back to Montana anytime.
Pastor Dan
