Don’t sleep on God.

So, here we are again. Today is Monday which means it is blog time again. I look forward to writing these every week but it does kind of stress me out a bit knowing that everything I write could potentially be seen by hundreds of people. I have thrown out some pretty challenging stuff over the past couple of weeks and have not received any negative feedback so at this point I am feeling pretty good. Oh, and I do appreciate the comments. It lets me know that people really are reading these blogs.

Thanks again to everyone who came out yesterday to take part in Aletheia’s weekly worship experience. Many new faces showed up and we had a great time learning about the party that we are all invited to by Jesus Himself. If you missed out on Pastor Dave’s message, it’s okay. Get on the aletheia church website and listen to the podcast under “archived messages.” The band rocked out some music by Hillsong United, Relient K, Jeremy Camp, and Chris Tomlin. We already have some of the live stuff up from yesterday on our myspace page (www.myspace.com/aletheiaband) so give it a listen.

What can I leave everyone this week? How about this…Don’t be caught sleeping! We learned yesterday that some of us will be caught “nodding off” because we are not living in hopeful expectation of Christ’s return. In thinking of this, I am reminded of when I was in grad school at JMU. I was a graduate assistant and my lead instructor was teaching a lecture in front of 100 students and there was one certain young man, whom, without fail, would lay his head down on his desk and take a nap. He did this every single class. I knew he would get caught one day. Well, that one day finally came. He laid his head down to assume the normal “napping” position, and the teacher, engaged in her instructing of the class, noticed the young man and guess what happened next? She kicked him out of the class. She was furious. She felt disrespected and disgraced. She actually screamed at him. Believe me, he didn’t sleep again.

Now how do you think God feels when we are sleeping on Him? Not only are we not living in expectation of His return, but we are going about our daily existences without even giving Him one thought. Do you think He’s excited about that? Do you think He’s happy that we are not even giving Him 5 minutes each day? Do you think we are bringing honor and glory to His name? Do you think we are being productive and effective in helping to bring the lost to Jesus? The answer to those questions is this…NO!

What will it take to wake us up? Is it going to take something major to wake us up or are we just going to say: “God, I’m awake. Take me. Use me. Help me to not be selfish. Help me to think about others. Help me to live in expectation of Your return. Help me to never sleep again. Help me to be willing to do anything for You. I’m all Yours God.”

Humbly in Christ, ap

Amen, bro. The recording of Take it All rocks, by the way…thanks for making it possible for all of us to enjoy your praise. I’m at training in Lansdowne right now (about 40 min. from Berryville) and I’m thinking about venturing over to the show on Thursday night. Will you let me know what time I could show up by and not miss the aletheia band? :) Thanks, man! laurie.e.brooks@gmail.com Blessings, Laurie
